Ever wondered about the 'hate' thing? The answer to this question is Kantian ethics, or deontology. In this approach to morality the intention is all that counts. In fact, taking the effect (or result) of your action into consideration at all, renders the act outside the field of morality per definition. It leads to obvious nonsense as, it is wrong to lie to a murderer, even if this would save someone's life:
PJM: "Honk! You’re Hateful", by Andrew Klavan
In an op-ed in last Sunday’s Los Angeles Times, I teasingly challenged liberals to—gasp!—actually listen to Rush Limbaugh with an open mind. The reaction was predictable, but no less hilarious for that. Email after email practically boiling with viciousness, foul language and hate, accused Limbaugh—and me—of being vicious, foul-mouthed and hateful. Don’t these people own mirrors? (...) >>>

PJM: "‘I’m Maureen Dowd, and I’ve Been Had’",
A support group for bitter pundits disappointed in Obama is quickly becoming necessary. They may need a support group before the month is out. They could gather in New York or Washington where many victims reside. The meetings would start: “I’m Maureen [or David]. I’m a duped Barack voter. And I’m mad.” The ranks indeed are filling with the disaffected and the disappointed — Chris Buckley, Maureen Dowd, David Brooks, David Gergen, and even that gynecological sleuth and blogger Andrew Sullivan. And then there is the very angry Marty Peretz. Their complaints are varied but expressed with equal amounts of remorse and bitterness. They all have been done wrong by Barack. (...) >>>

For certain is, that the choice for Obama as the next POTUS is an emotional one, made on the basis of the dangerous potion of guilt and fear: the hope of white redemption. Politeia: "The Perception Campaign"
The subjectivist cohorts aim to catch the human mind unawares, before conscious thought sets in. They seek to insinuate preconceptions on the subconscious sensations-percepts level (this is why they are called pre-conceptions). Adolf Hitler and all demagogues like him did the exact same thing. These massive hives of semi-tranced humans have the subconscious backdoor of the mind wide open to all kinds of vibes, benign, or malign as the case may be. In any case, no responsible, independent person wants his thought processes meddled with by mind-games.
From the same family of sloppy thought stems the Palin smear campaign. The rumor machine shares with the demagogues the wish to insinuate adverse emotions at an early stage, before a conscious, rational opinion of the person can be formed. CNN: "German anti-war poster hails soldier's death"
Germany's defense minister has condemned as an insult to the country's troops an anti-war poster that calls the death of a soldier in Afghanistan a "step to disarmament." Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung was quoted by the Bild newspaper Thursday as saying that the poster on the Web site of Germany's "Bureau for Antimilitary Measures" group was "tasteless" and "irresponsible." (...)
The downloadable poster — which has been available for five years — shows three soldiers standing next to the flag-draped coffin of a comrade killed in a 2002 helicopter crash in Afghanistan. "We greet this concrete measure to reduce the size of the military one-by-one," reads the caption under the poster's headline. The poster was produced in conjunction with the Berlin-area branch of the larger peace organization DFG-VK, whose parent organization on Thursday said it had not been sanctioned. The group called the poster an "inappropriate form of addressing the issue of Germany's involvement in war." (...) At the same time the group insisted "The poster, however, is not a crime — unlike the war that deliberately claims the lives of soldiers and innocent civilians." (...) >>>

Al Jazeera: "Arab media blind to Darfur"
The conflict in Darfur is a news story that has been widely and emotively covered by western media but has attracted relatively little coverage within the Arab media. (...) There are many similarities between the violence in Iraq and Darfur from the estimate of the number of civilians killed to paramilitaries operating closely linked to the government forces, to victims who are targeted for membership of an ethnic group. The world's most celebrated victims have once again scored a PR coup and managed to get the major news services pimping for them. One can only sit back in admiration and awe at the skill and talent--not to mention energy and resources it takes to pull off a victimhood scam of this magnatude!

brilliant ... for all its sadness ...!Updated: 24th Jan. 2008
ShrinkWrapped has an excellent discussion on how people's conscious thoughts and actions, often reflect contradictory unconscious desires. In particular, he focuses on unconscious aggression (...) by denying our own aggressive natures we end up enabling and supporting the aggression of others. The most blatant example is the appeasement of terrorism and terrorists by the political left and the Democrats; or any who are totally invested in seeing themselves as "antiwar" as they cozy up to enemies whose explicit goal is to destroy our civilization. (...) Many people have forgotten that one of the most well-known pacifists of all time--Gandhi--proposed that nothing should have been done about the holocaust or the Nazis. How many of his admirers have considered what the consequences would have been if the world had followed Gandhi's lead? (...) Antiwar protestors always make a point of asking rhetorically what war is good for? (...) The truth is that no sane person wants war, but aggression may be the only possible response to evil. And in human history, there have been many evils far worse than war (...) If you cannot consciously tap into the aggressive side of your human nature and permit the use of aggression and even violence to serve the good; you will inevitably end up serving all that is evil in the world. Pacifists cannot deal with this simple truth. In reality, they don't care much about human suffering, misery or even death; let alone the legacy of evil in the world. Through a variety of psychological defenses, they have managed to deny, displace, distort, and project real evil away. There cannot be found even a trace of psychological insight among all those angry marchers who violently and adamantly demand peace at any price. (...) externalize the blame (...) emphasize rhetoric over action; good intentions over actual behavior. Antiwar activism is simply part of the left's ongoing struggle against reality (...) The track record of pacifism is horrendous. Not only do "peace movements" fail to bring peace; but by protecting, appeasing, and minimizing true evil, they ensure that war--when it inevitably comes--costs even more in terms of human suffering and lives. >>>
